The idea
Agentic AI describes systems that pursue a goal through a sequence of decisions and actions. Instead of answering once and stopping, a system can inspect information, choose a permitted tool, observe the result and decide what to do next. The amount of autonomy depends on its design.
How it differs from a chatbot
A text generator might draft a response. An agentic system might also retrieve a record, check a missing field and prepare the next step. More agents are not automatically better: a single agent or a fixed workflow may be sufficient.
A business example
Consider preparing a service-request brief. The system could gather authorised documents, identify gaps and draft a summary. A named reviewer checks the evidence before any consequential update. This is a learning example; access and integrations must be confirmed for each organisation.
What to ask before adopting it
Define the goal, acceptable evidence, permitted actions, stopping conditions and escalation owner. Ask how failures are detected and how a person can pause or correct the process. Start with one measurable task.
