Cybersecurity protects the environment
Cybersecurity manages threats to systems and information, including unauthorised access, compromise and disruption. Identity controls, secure configuration, detection and recovery help protect the infrastructure an AI application depends on.
AI governance examines the use
AI governance also considers whether an AI application should be used for a task, who is accountable, how outputs are evaluated and what effects it has on people. A securely hosted model can still provide an unsuitable or unfair recommendation.
The overlap
Both disciplines need asset ownership, access rules, change review and incident handling. Prompt injection, data leakage and unsafe tool use can require joint action. Security teams and business owners need shared evidence rather than isolated approval checklists.
A practical comparison
Restricting access to a case file is a security control. Testing whether a generated case summary misrepresents evidence is an AI-quality and governance concern. Requiring an authorised person to approve a consequential decision connects both disciplines.
